*Carbon ion radiotherapy shows promise for a variety of diseases beyond those currently covered by insurance or clinical trials. It can be considered when other treatments are ineffective or where outcomes are expected to be superior in comparison to alternative therapy options. Treatment eligibility is determined by a cancer board. In certain cases, treatment will not proceed if outcome is deemed not beneficial or suitable (eg. poor health, additional cancers), despite the patient’s strong desire to do so.
